Our Team
John J. Murphy Prior to founding Murphy Capital Management in 1983, John Murphy was Vice President and Senior Investment Portfolio Officer of Citizens First National Bank of New Jersey, where he was responsible for the investment policy and management of the banks's trust and pension and profit-sharing division. Mr. Murphy joined the bank in 1970, having previously been associated with Bache & Co., a member of the New York Stock Exchange, as a research analyst and block trader in the institutional division. A recipient of a Bache scholarship, Mr. Murphy graduated with a BS degree in economics from New York University and attended their Graduate School of Business, majoring in finance. He holds his Series 24 and Series 63 designations. Memberships and Boards
Peter J. Lewis Peter Lewis joined Murphy Capital Management in 2004 as a Portfolio Manager after a fourteen-year career in asset management. Prior to joining Murphy Capital Management, Peter was a Senior Portfolio Manager with WSC Capital, LLC, a boutique firm he helped found. He was responsible for the management of day-to-day operations and provided specialized portfolio management services to their clients. Prior to WSC Capital, Peter worked on Wall Street for Goldman, Sachs and Company as an Associate in Private Client Services. In this capacity, he provided investment direction and structured portfolios for high net-worth clients. In addition he was a "Team Leader" for his department and was a member of numerous committees ranging from Investment Management Policy to Firm-wide Global Initiatives. Peter graduated from Caldwell College with a BA degree and went on to receive his Masters Degree from Drew University. He holds his Series 65 designation.
Joseph G. Shannon (Semi-retired) Joe Shannon joined Murphy Capital Management in 1990 as a portfolio manager after a fifteen-year career in commercial banking. Joe began his career with Bank of America's Edge Act Bank in Manhattan where he was involved in import/export trade financing. He later took a position at Chase Manhattan for eleven years as a lending officer in both its corporate and middle market banking divisions . He led the bank's participation in a syndicate loan to May Department Stores to finance its acquisition of Associated Dry Goods. Joe graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA degree and received his MBA from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business. He holds his Series 63, 2 and 65 designations.
